Sailor arraigned over alleged job placement rip-off

The police, in Lagos, on Wednesday, arraigned a 45-year-old sailor, Sunday Udoh, who allegedly illegally collected N79,500 from a job seeker and solid  certificates for him to safe a job in a ship.
Udoh, a resident of Mangoro in Agege, Lagos, is standing trial earlier than an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on a four-count cost of conspiracy, stealing, forgery and acquiring cash beneath false pretences.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Mike Unah, stated that the accused collected the sum from Mr Kenneth Bernard with a promise to safe a job for him, however failed to take action.
Unah advised the court docket that the sailor conspired with one other man nonetheless at giant to commit the offences in June at a National Filling Station, Agege.
He submitted that the accused solid the Maritime Academy of Nigeria certificates and the certificates of  Maritime College, Accra, with an intention to make use of them to safe the job.
“The accused collected the cash and did not get the complainant the job.
“He converted the money for his personal use,” the prosecutor stated.
Udoh stated that the offences contravened Sections 287, 411, 365 and 314 of the Legal Legislation of Lagos State, 2015.
The accused, nevertheless, pleaded not responsible.
The Justice of the Peace, Mrs A. O. Gbajumo, granted him bail within the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
